BHADS

The Broad Hinton Amateur Dramatic Society (BHADS) was formed in 2000 to put on entertainment for the local community, and for ourselves. We usually put on a pantomime in January or February, and in some years a play or revue in the summer. Anyone who'd like to take part is welcome, on stage or off it.

Coming up

Our 2027 pantomime is Beauty and the Beast, written by Sam Morshead. Performances will be at the end of January or early February 2027. We'll post the dates here, and on the Events page, once they're fixed.

Joining in

You don't need any experience. Over the years BHADS has introduced adults and children to acting, and others have learned set design and building, lighting and sound, costume making, and programme and ticket design. Young people over nine are welcome in the pantomime.

About BHADS

A group of actors from Broad Hinton, Uffcott and Winterbourne Bassett first got together in the 1990s to put on cabaret and pantomime at Harvest Festival dinners and Christmas suppers in the village hall. In 2000 they staged a comedy version of The Sound of Music? in Broad Hinton's Millennium Marquee, with adults playing children and men taking women's parts. Demand for tickets couldn't be met, even with standing room at the back, and BHADS was formed.

Until summer 2008, every show was in the old village hall, which had a stage but no dressing rooms. Actors, adults and children, changed in tents on the school field, which was no joke in a January pantomime season. So BHADS was a leading supporter of the appeal for a new hall and gave its spare profits to it. The new hall opened on 9 May 2009 and staged its first production, The Importance of Being Earnest, less than two months later.

BHADS is affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).
