Hackpen Festival

The Hackpen Festival is our celebration of beer, cider, gin and wine made in Wiltshire, with local food and live music, held in the village hall. It's named after Hackpen Hill and its White Horse, which look down on the village.

It's also a fundraiser. Profits from the 2026 festival went towards a battery to store the energy from the hall's solar panels, so the hall can be as self-sufficient as possible in its energy use.

Hackpen Festival 2027

We're planning the next festival. We'll post the date and put tickets on sale here when they're ready.

In 2026 the festival ran from 3pm to 11pm on Saturday 19 September. Adult tickets were £15 and accompanied under 18s came free. Each adult ticket included an engraved glass, beer or gin, and two drinks tokens, which could be used for any drink, soft drinks included, and for food.

Drinks

Everything at the bar comes from around Wiltshire, with over 20 beers and ciders, over 10 gins, and a wine bar with fizz. This was the 2026 line-up.

Food and music

In 2026 The Winterbourne did the food, with Chef Mihai's barbecue.

Lucy Anna, a singer-songwriter from Bristol who has played Boardmasters in Newquay, started the afternoon from 4pm to 6pm. Later, 24-7, the local band headed up by BHADS regular Neil Lucas, played from 8pm to 11pm. Kick your shoes off.

Getting here

The hall is on Yew Tree Lane, Broad Hinton, SN4 9RH. If you're coming from outside our three villages, it's worth leaving the car at home.

The 49 and 9 buses run along the A4361 and stop in Broad Hinton, and some 49 services stop right outside the hall. See the Stagecoach timetables. From the Royal Wootton Bassett and Marlborough directions, Wiltshire Connect runs in both areas.

For taxis, Uber now covers Wiltshire, and Veezu can be booked ahead from Swindon.

Staying over

The Crown and The Winterbourne both serve Sunday lunch.

Raffle prizes

We run a raffle at the festival with prizes donated by local businesses. If you donate a prize, you get a digital advert on the two large screens, and your prize and name go on the posters at the entrance. Tickets are sold as people arrive and through the afternoon, and the draw is just before the evening band.

To donate a prize, email villagehall@broadhinton.org.uk.

Sponsorship and advertising

Sponsors and advertisers help us cover the costs, so more of the ticket money goes to the hall. In 2025 we sold 193 tickets and in 2026 207 people came. Our advertising reaches people in our three villages and further afield, from Avebury, Wroughton and Royal Wootton Bassett to Marlborough, Devizes, Calne and Swindon.

The programme is a full-colour, professionally printed A5 booklet. A quarter-page advert costs £50 and a half page £100, and both include a digital advert on the screens at the festival.

To sponsor or advertise, email villagehall@broadhinton.org.uk.

Hackpen 2026

What a fabulous event! Beer, gin and wine from Wiltshire were enjoyed by 207 people from our community and from further afield, including Bristol, London, Leeds, Suffolk and South Africa. They came as groups of friends, families, singles and couples, eating Chef Mihai's barbecue, listening to Lucy Anna and later dancing to 24-7. We had so much fun we're already planning next year.

Many thanks to the people who made it happen and aren't village hall trustees: Tom Bance and Nick Snow for sourcing the beer and setting up on Friday and Saturday, Liz Moakes for the programme design, Chris O'Neill for everything from setting up the beer to serving, Jo Smith for securing many of the raffle prizes, Geoff Martin and Robin Smith for putting the cover up over the beer, Helen Miller and Izzy Moakes for setting up on Saturday, and The Winterbourne for the food. Thank you too to everyone who served at the bars and worked on the door: Terri and Dave Thompson, Marilyn Martin, Chris Horan, Jo Smith, Steve Warren, Bridget Cooper, Jon Kromer, Helen Miller, Abbie and Paul Fleming, Candace Gaisford, Alice Ship and Keith Jones. Huge thanks to everyone who sponsored the beer and gin, and to our main sponsor Southby and Co Financial Planning.
